Use sIFR to get the any font you want on your webpages.

Anyone who has ever done any kind of web development understands that there are only a certain number of fonts you can use on a site. This is fine if you are ok with a bland site that uses fonts like…fonts, Arial, Tahoma, Times, etc. But what if you wanted to use something else lets say “Helvetica Neue Extended ” for headings and other items on your site? The only way you could achieve this is if you created images for the headings, using the font that you want. This may not be a big deal for some of you, but what about when you want to update the site? You need to create more images right? NOT ANY MORE! Those days are gone my friends.

Today (I assume for a while now) there is been something called sIFR. What does sIFR do? sIFR uses Flash & Javascript to replace the drab text on your site with any font you’d like, giving you a little more creative ability without compromising usability. What is so great about sIFR is that even though the user sees a flash representation of your text, the text is still technically there. (View a Sample Here) This is great because the search engines and other robots see your headings or other text as heading or text and not a flash object.

Find Out More at the sIFR website, or get the book that I found this in at SitePoint, it’s call the Art & Science of CSS.
